Even though the "core" horror part of Evertale fake ads is there, the game lacks a lot of polishing that makes the horror part not scary at all. This game had a lot of potential, but it ends looking up as an amateur pokemon edgy hack game. It also lacks direction, so who knows why we are in this world and why this stuff happens... I hope all the issues are fixed, so we might see a worthy implementation of the fake Evertale ads
I want to like it but its just too repetitive and harsh on the eyes. I'd definitely try again when it's remade though!
In all honesty, this game was pretty fun! Found this game through a comment on a Game Theory video about Evertale. I wish the ads were like the game, so thanks to this one, I was able to have a similar experience if I got to play the game if it were like the ads! Thank you lotsa for making this fun! Only complaint is that I was disappointed that I didn't get to go into Route 1. If this included more stuff like Pokemon, (gyms, trainers, caves, and in general, more Pokemon), then I would certainly pay for this game (if i had money lol)! Loved it! :D
Honestly, I found this and played it and it's... okay? It's NOT terrible, but the yelling is obnoxiously loud and the repetition does kind of dull the scare factor. It's very much unsettling and feels like old school creepypasta but it becomes old quickly and it feels like some of the "resets" didn't need to be there. I liked it for the old school style it has and it is decent, just would probably just watch a review or an analysis over actually playing it. Think people should check it out, just not for me.
Can I review without having a positive/negative? I mean I'm not sure if this feels more like a visual novel where there's not really any options beyond quitting, and maybe that's part of the narrative, but this feels like its meant to be more told than played. It definitely feels too repetitive, but its also free game (without micros) so that usually gives a leniency to these things. No? I can't not pick? I'm sorry, I guess I didn't really enjoy this.
This reminds me of one of those old Pokemon creepypastas.
So, I'm going to give this a positive review, even though I don't think this version of the game is really worth playing. The concept is fun and the game had a few good moments, and it seems like the dev is new to gamemaking, so I want to be supportive and see what they come up with in the future (especially the remake of Beasts of Burden). That said, just a bit of constructive criticism: sometimes the amount that you had to just keep walking up and getting reset felt very tedious. Also, while the creepy visuals and scares were effective enough, I'm still left wondering what actually happened. Individual dark moments are cool, but it would be nice for everything to come together cohesively. Maybe all of this was intentional, idk.
