(Ignore play time; I played mostly through a copy from Itch.io before redeeming my key) Let me qualify this recommendation: you should give this a go if you've got a couple hours free to enjoy a decent revenge fantasy. A little taste for torture is a must. What the game does right: A strong start. Atmosphere conveyed through effective use of a simple soundtrack (particularly the piece with slow yet heart-pounding drums for scenes of tension). Cute, clean character art. A minimal UI to keep the focus on the story. Dynamic speech bubbles to display dialogue, adding rhythm and variety in longer conversations. Characters all have some nuance to them but, as expected, never cross the threshold to complex. This suits the story's goals just fine. What the game could do better: Editing and trimming. Despite being on the short side, this visual novel couldn't quite escape being overwritten. Scenes tend to drag on where punchiness would get across the emotion better. Speeches and exposition are too drawn out, dialogue too casual in times of urgency. The narration spends too much time stating what was already clear. The pickier reader may notice a jarring trend of characters listing off three or four parallelisms at once, always in the same style (short infinitive phrases), sometimes shortly after each other in the same conversation. There's few typos but a decent amount of random tense switching. I felt a poor story choice was made in
showing us Grace's betrayal before Magda knew.
The inclusion of her POV throttled the tension and took us out of Magda's shoes, which were far scarier to be in at the time. Overall, an experience worth two or three hours if you enjoy darker themes and have patience with a story repeating itself.

I mean I played the demo with the thoughts of redemption, religion/cult being overthrown and standing up for yourself could possible happen and then I see
Magda blast up stairs as a new being craving flesh. Magical girl villain arc time

Oh seeing the good/bad sides of human beings capacity for horrible acts twists the mind
but exciting read to the end. I just wish more lore got weaved into this, it's implied but I wanna know more.
straight up gave me chills. really great overall (in case it isn't obvious i'm not great at reviews)
i can't deny that i was super engaged from start to finish, and the majority is well-written and well paced in a way only a visual novel can really be, and i'll give it significant credit for this. there were several scenes that left an incredible impression on me, and it is clear that the creator, mado, has significant talent as a writer of VNs, and for that matter, as an artist. with all that said, i will say that the ending (or i guess the final act?) was disappointing, though by no means awful. without elaborating further, in the interest of avoiding spoilers, i'll say only that it felt rushed, with one large plot point in particular being resolved pretty much offscreen, and that the subsequent epilogue doesn't really add much. ultimately, however, i'd say this is super solid and worth checking out, and i look forward to any future projects by this developer
The design of the characters is very cute, and the illustration colors are very beautiful, the background tell us a unique ambient with the story and yes, the story is very interesting, with plots that i did not expected, i enjoyed a lot! i would be very happy if Bad faith have a next game!
I really wish that I was able to do something other than give this game a thumbs up/down. My feelings towards this visual novel are neutral. It was neither good nor bad. It was predictable, but that doesn't have to be a negative thing. I absolutely loved the art style and the music used fit the scenes. I feel like things started off well, but it plays like the author lost their inspiration part way through and the latter half of the novel suffers from it. There were a few things that should have been fully written scenes that were left as just a few sentences. We're left with a simple "draw your own conclusions" type of ending. After all was said and done, I felt sort of empty inside. BONUS POINTS: There's implementations for those with hearing impairment as well as an option for font better suited for those who have dyslexia/trouble reading.
Very satisfying if you can relate to the experience. I was fully immersed, the emotions felt realistic. The conflict seems a bit unresolved but I think that's just a reflection of how unresolved the author's own anger is, rather than poor writing.
The demo pulled me in, but I kind of regret making this purchase. The plot was good, but the ending just seemed so typical. The backstory behind HOW the cult was formed or WHY wasn't even discussed. Lady Amaris was shown as a younger version of herself in the past when they captured Nils. Then.. just nothing. No flashbacks from the past. The silhouette of the NPCs are just copy and pasted. The "gorey" description in the text doesn't match the illustration. Eve being shredded wasn't even shown or drawn. So I couldn't really feel any sense of dread or terror. I could be nitpicking, but that's what I think.
I loved the storyline of this game, but I do wish that it gave you actual choices to make and wasn't just something you read through. Like for example,
having the choice to have Magda actually act on the intrusive thoughts Nils is sending her
, or having choices of
what path Magda should take to get back to the building where Nils is being kept, and there being higher chances of getting caught depending on the path you choose
. But other than that, it was a fun read-through and I feel like making it more interactive with actual choices would really make it a more immersive experience. Especially since such a huge part of the game is Magda trying to be on her best behavior so she doesn't get in trouble, so it would have been really cool to see how player choices affect Magda's already poor reputation in the Haven.
This game is not really a game but rather a story. There are no choices, no ways to fail or succeed. If you want to make an impact on the story, look elsewhere. If you want to buckle up and be in for a ride, continue on. Idk how to really describe it without giving too much away but I had a hard time looking away from this. I ended up finishing it in one sitting. I find the story very interesting, personally. It did not feel like it was trying to teach me anything but rather I was just watching a real story go down. Real fear, real insecurities, real power dynamics. Really, the only bad thing I could say about this is that I want more. More context on the entire world, more context on how their community works, more context on how it got to be like this.
