Without having access to the source code, there are hard limitations on the experience we can create. As an example, we can’t use the original 32bit code to support modern macOS, as even with an incredibly clever wrapper, macOS can’t execute the binaries.
Backyard Hockey ‘02 runs well, looks better than ever, is stacked with Steam achievements to test your mettle, and creates a new installation for digital preservation within the Backyard Sports catalog that allows the next generation of fans to fall in love with the game.

As a Minnesotan, Im ashamed how much this game taught me how hockey is played.
caveat: It's free. a good hit of nostalgia. would I have gotten it if it werent free? eh. maybe? also 2 achievements never popped.
Definitively the BEST Hockey game available on steam at this moment. And its FREE Pros: -Free -Offsides off by default -Icing off by default -The absolute cheat code that is the greatest Backyard athlete of all time: Pablo Sanchez -Roughing only called when you attempt to end an opposing player career -Ability to get away with war crimes by winning a game of rock paper scissors

Let me start by saying, I never played this as a small child, and don't have the nostalgia for it others do. I only had Backyard Baseball, (and i think very breifly basket ball) So I can't speak to how this compares to running it back in the day. We'll start with what I like: I like that the cast of characters includes people from the backyard baseball crew, but also adds other characters-and that not everyone from the baseball crew is the same level of usefulness. [strike] I don't think i ever saw anybody intentionally pick Reese Worthington before. [/strike] I like that the rinks vary from clearly well kept rinks to just somebody's pond, really embrace the backyard nature of it. Obviously the price can not be beat, hot dang. I like that it's not just the same kids on the ice all the time, or at least doesn't have to be. switching around offence and defense seems like it could be really intresting for strategizing, as well as being true to a real hockey game. I personally havn't played enough to get into the weeds of how well it works but a quick glance looks promising. Now things I'm less fond of: I wish we could customize the team names more, just seems like that would be more fun. I wish we could see all the kids avalible at once rather then having to scroll through them. I like that there's a practice area, but I wish it let me practice passing, rather then just shootouts-or air hockey lol. I'm not much good at juggling multiple players right now, and got a headache trying to keep up with it-but single games will have to do. Obviously the above are things that not much can be done about just now, as it would require changing things about how the game is arranged-and I know this has been set up without access to the source code. Overall, I was split on if I should recommend it-but i settled on yes. I think its a wonderful thing to make these games avaliable, and while I am obviously biased towards backyard baseball, it is certainly not the only one that deserves to be remembered. the price can't be beat, and it does boot and run smoothly. (some minor lag here and there, nothing too bad yet)
Juego 100% Gratis y encima muy bueno? Es increíble este juego incluyendo que puedes crear a tu propio jugador, simplemente de lo mejor junto con el Baseball
Can't change the resolution, can't maintain even a 30fps, can't even look up what the buttons do in the menus. Had my hopes up for that 6th grade nostalgia, but just like middle school this was disappointing.
Thought this would be an easy 100% achievement game, but unfortunately there are unobtainable glitched achievements preventing that from happening. Other users report similar problems from months ago, so it will likely not get fixed. As far as the gameplay goes, I grew up on Backyard Baseball, so seeing this game was free, I thought it would be some fun nostalgia from an alternate timeline. It's not as fun as Backyard Baseball, and is very simple and gets repetitive, but it gets the job done for essential a hockey flash game.
the game is fun but can get repetitive some times
A free hockey game? Great! But that's probably the only good thing going for it - unless you are in for a nostalgia factor.
