Such a great metroidvania. I just had so much fun with this game, it really scratches that metroidvania itch with a great map that feels natural to traverse. Edit: Have replayed it after experiencing more metroidvanias and being older and even if still good it felt a lot more tedious. Notes not being able to be read until you found the right ones, items and paths being hidden everywhere (which can be fun but it was too much), the randomized location breach realms which made you rub every wall and just the general pathing of the exploration all made it feel tedious playing it again. If it were the first time i played it then those things wouldn't have bothered me because the pacing of the story is fairly good and that would have made the tediousness go away but when you already experienced it once it then it can't distract from the flaws of the game.

For scale, across Steam · Top Sellers · Brazil over the last 30 days: the 26 chart moves that followed a price cut of more than 20% went a median of 7 places towards #1, and the 2,402 moves with no price cut behind them went 2 away. One store, one chart, one country — it is the only place we have enough observations to say even that.
Prices outside the United States have been collected since 6 August 2026 and chart positions since 19 July 2026, so a cut older than that has no market to compare and a market that joined later has no history yet. Nothing here is converted between currencies.

this is my fav metroidvania i love axiom hes a great character verge is a lovable sidekick
KAMGUSTA'S MINI REVIEW A labor of love from a single developer. It's an homage to the old school game "Super Metroid" (SNES era). If you feel nostalgic, this is the game for you. For everyone else, it's mediocre in every aspect; if you like the genre there are WAY better metroidvanias out there (if you still haven't, it's time to play "Castlevania: Symphony of the Night"). bought this game back in 2016 but only just yesterday did i pick it back up again. everything had been running fine up to today, where out of the blue it's always now laggy. i didn't touch any of the settings and the only fix i could find was to turn off v-sync with the cost of having to deal with screen tearing :/ this issue long aside the fact i just wasn't really enjoying the gameplay or the story has sadly made me abandon the game once again to collect dust in my library, which is a damn shame because the game's pixel art is really beautiful.
oh my god im on the verge of axioming right now
xiom Verge feels like an ultra-competent homage to the original Metroid on the NES ,with touches of Metroid II and even a bit of Metroid: Zero Mission sprinkled in. What makes this even more impressive is that it was developed entirely by one person,a veteran game developer who created Axiom Verge in his spare time. Which is both impressive and mildly depressing if you have ever tried to be productive at anything for more than 20 minutes. The game captures the mood, atmosphere, and core visual principles of classic Metroid exceptionally well. Still it got some really fashinable vfx for explosions, distortion, and some particles. Narratively, Axiom Verge actually offers some intriguing ideas and characters. The story is not the main focus, but it remains engaging enough to stitch exploration and gameplay together into a mostly cohesive experience. One of the more uneven elements is the weapon system. There are a lot of weapons, with different firing patterns, but many of the differences feel superficial. Most weapons do not feature deep mechanics that meaningfully change how you play and their damage output tends to be too similar, that its hard too notive that some of them are in fact stronger. In theory, this freedom could encourage experimentation and varied playstyles, but in practice I found myself sticking to only two or three weapons for most of the game. Something closer to Mega Man, where damage types and mechanics really incentivize mixing and matchin and experimenting might have strengthened the design. The soundtrack is also a bit hit-or-miss. While it usually nails the ambience of each location, a few tracks (like “Kur,” in my opinion) are difficult to listen to and fall short of the musical quality of the games that inspired it. The weakest aspect for me is the map design. Although it is interconnected in true Metroidvania fashion, it becomes overwhelming and chaotic after the first area. There were several points where it was genuinely difficult to figure out where to go next, and the automap was not that helpful in this regard. Overall, this is one of the closest experiences to classic Metroid you can find, (maybe pretty close there is Ghost Song too) and it stands as one of the most solid Metroidvanias which are not Metroid. just be prepared to get lost, swap through many weapons, some bounce, some arc, some pretend they are special and occasionally question your life choices along the way.
A very fun game, and a good metriodvania. Also, I don't know if trace is a human, machine, clone, or involuntary time traveler.
