Boyle Wolfbane wanted to rule the world. He failed. Miserably. Forced into retirement early, Boyle now spends his days arguing with haunted trees and scaring off the occasional knight. At least he still has Fang, his loyal storm wolf. Things could be worse. He could have been born a hero.

This game definitely started of rough for me. I was ready for it to be over with up until about the halfway point. There was so much damn backtracking in this game and although you can mist walk there's no real fast travel so it got real annoying real quick. There were also some puzzles that i just had to look up because they were not intuitive like at all and that was super annoying to me. By the end of the game I realized i had enjoyed most of it, but was also happy it was over. I enjoyed the plot for the most part. I would give this a 6/10 probably.
Great plot and maps, nice to see the Aveyond stable is still being increased by quality titles.

Just finished. Played it in expert mode. Took over 70 hours, and worth it. Very funny script, surprising turns of events, great characterizations. And not easy to win. This is one of the very best games I've played.
Still the best game I've ever played, just like other games of its series. Never stopped impressing me.
I will say this game plays very differently from the others in the series. That being said it was still very enjoyable and I loved ho much play time there was. I didn't find the characters as lovable as previous games either but really liked the dialogue written between them. I also liked the revamped fighting style and new game play aspects that were included with this game. Overall I would definitely recommend this game.
Finished Aveyond 4: Shadow of the Mist. A good RPG maker game in the style of the previous 3 games. This time focused on Boyle, a reluctant retired villain forced into saving the world (and his minion Fang). Little grinding required as long as you don’t avoid all enemies and the sidequests are ok-to-good. Includes both fairly simple quests and multipart quests that start near the beginning of the game and complete later; there are also some unmarked quests focused on the player noting NPC speech and remembering to fetch them certain items or go certain places. A bit too much backtracking with only moderate movement speeds and no player maps although the different zones / maps are simple enough that you don’t get lost.
As expected, Aveyond 4 was so fun to play. The plot is so interesting, there are a lot of witty and funny conversation. The characters are so funny and likeable., really love the idea of villain with good heart being the main characters! However, I feel that there are a lot of interesting thing related to side quest and main quest but it could be more interesting if it is explored more and I feel that the ending is kinda rushed and left a feeling of "that's it?" But overall really love this game and really recommend anyone to play this!! Anyway, I am looking forward to more aveyond series in the future!
16 hours in and still not done! This game is very typical of it's genre, and if you've played the other Aveyond games you know what to expect: Turn based battle, lots of walking back and forth between places, fetch quests galore and protagonists full of quippy one liners. My only gripe is that the fast travel is a bit more annoying than in other Aveyond games, in that it still requires you to physically traverse maps to get to some places, and I haven't been able to find "fast walking boots" like there are in some of the other games. The battle mechanics aren't the most sophisticated I've come across, and even though I play on the easiest setting on purpose I have never really been even close to losing a battle, which maybe means the easy setting is a bit too overpowered. Other than that the story is fun, the maps are really well done. A really relaxing way to spend a couple of hours without taxing the ole noggin too hard.
This is one of those games where I wish I could give it a neutral recommendation. I'm giving it a positive review, but just barely. See, the game starts out fairly strong, with a charming plot and characters. I love the idea of a retired supervillain having to come out of retirement to go on a quest that will lead to him becoming a hero against his will and save the world. And the idea of a supervillain retirement community, where the game begins, is just great. The problem is that this all falls apart about halfway through the game. Boyle, the supervillain main character, gets shoved into the background and turned into a joke as more characters are introduced, with a new, far less interesting elf character taking his place as the protagonist. The plot also gets bogged down into really annoying fetch quests and then gets wrapped up in a sequel hook for a sequel that never happened. As for the gameplay, it starts out rough and then becomes tedious. Maps are maze like and take forever to traverse due to the characters' slow movement speed, which is combined with TONS of backtracking in those fetch quests. This all comes to a head in an absolutely infuriating puzzle section in the middle half where, if you don't have a guide, you'll probably end up pulling your hair out. Combat is fine, but lackluster. There's no depth to it and you have to do a fair amount of grinding in the latter half of the game. In the hands of a better writer and designer, this could have been something really special. Instead it's just okay. Get it on sale and give it a shot, just be prepared for when the wheels come off.
