Great
It's just... really boring. The story is okay, the dialogue and stuff is fine, but the gameplay is godawful and it doesn't get better. This game came out eight years after Starcraft: Brood war, but it has no quality of life features. It completely lacks engaging combat. You're limited to two summons, so don't even think of having more than two casters in your party. "Difficult encounters" are just meant to be cheesed by pre-buffing before going into combat and spamming summons to take hits for you. The skill points system is godawful, and it doesn't feel like you are progressing when you level up. Play another cRPG instead.

Avernum 6 stands as the final chapter in Spiderweb Software's long-running underground fantasy saga, bringing the Great Trials Trilogy to a dramatic close. Developed and published by Spiderweb Software, the game embraces a design philosophy that feels increasingly rare in modern gaming. It is a title built around player freedom, extensive exploration, and rich storytelling rather than visual spectacle. Set within the sprawling subterranean nation of Avernum, players are thrust into a world facing extinction, where famine, political unrest, and external threats converge to create one last desperate struggle for survival. The game's central narrative revolves around the collapse of the Avernite civilization. Crops are failing due to a devastating blight, enemies gather on every frontier, and hope is becoming increasingly scarce. Players assume the role of a commander leading a group of loyal adventurers through dangerous territories in an attempt to preserve their homeland. This sense of urgency permeates every aspect of the experience. From major story missions to smaller side quests, Avernum 6 consistently reinforces the idea that the fate of an entire nation rests on the player's actions. The writing remains one of Spiderweb Software's defining strengths, delivering meaningful dialogue and moral dilemmas that encourage players to think carefully about the consequences of their choices. Mechanically, Avernum 6 remains deeply rooted in the traditions of classic computer role-playing games. Exploration is extensive, with countless settlements, hidden locations, and optional dungeons waiting to be uncovered. The game rewards curiosity in a way few modern RPGs do, often hiding valuable equipment, lore, or quest opportunities off the beaten path. Combat utilizes a turn-based system that emphasizes strategy over speed. Positioning, resource management, and party composition all play significant roles in determining success, particularly during the later stages of the campaign where encounters become increasingly demanding. Character customization provides another layer of depth. Players can develop their party members through a wide variety of skills, magical disciplines, and combat specialties, allowing for numerous viable builds. Whether favoring powerful spellcasters, durable frontline fighters, or versatile hybrid characters, the progression system offers enough flexibility to accommodate different playstyles. The game's refusal to oversimplify its mechanics may present a challenge for newcomers, but longtime RPG enthusiasts will appreciate its commitment to complexity and meaningful decision-making. Visually, Avernum 6 is unmistakably a product of an independent studio with limited resources. Its environments and character models are functional rather than impressive, and the presentation lacks many of the cinematic elements commonly associated with contemporary role-playing games. However, the simplicity of its graphics does little to diminish the strength of its world-building. The underground setting remains memorable thanks to thoughtful environmental design and an atmosphere that effectively conveys the isolation and hardship of life beneath the surface. Combined with a subtle soundtrack and ambient audio, the game succeeds in creating an immersive fantasy setting despite its technical limitations. One of the most impressive aspects of Avernum 6 is its scale. The campaign offers dozens of hours of content, filled with optional objectives, hidden secrets, and narrative threads that enrich the overall experience. Returning fans will find satisfying conclusions to longstanding plotlines, while newcomers can still enjoy the adventure without extensive knowledge of previous entries. Spiderweb Software does an admirable job of balancing accessibility with continuity, ensuring that the finale remains approachable while retaining its significance within the broader series. Ultimately, Avernum 6 is an excellent reminder that compelling role-playing games do not require enormous budgets or cutting-edge visuals. Its strengths lie in its writing, strategic gameplay, and expansive world design. Although its dated presentation and old-school sensibilities may not appeal to everyone, players who appreciate traditional CRPG experiences will discover an adventure filled with depth, challenge, and memorable moments. As the final entry in the Great Trials Trilogy, it delivers a satisfying conclusion while reaffirming Spiderweb Software's reputation for crafting thoughtful and enduring role-playing games. Rating: 7/10
Many more hours of game play than the other "Avernum" titles so far. Challenging bosses and combat situations, tons of loot/spells, and (a few) outcome options along the way. Intriguing story line which brings the nature of Avernum and all the involved powers (Human nations, Nephil, Slith, Spiral Pit, Vahnatai, Dragons, etc.) to a "conclusionist" scenario based on how the previous games have handled them thus far. It is similar in this regard with, and probably as qualified as, Avernum 3. Personally, I wish there were more graphic options for characters. Sometimes the bosses can be a little too challenging without looking up walks-through. It is not possible to kill a dragon. But those are all the petty negative things I have to say.
fun old school
I love it! very fun! https://store.steampowered.com/app/206060/Avernum_6/
I have played this game before on my Ipad. This game is pretty difficult even on normal difficulty, but it is still very fun. I have played through like the first third to one-half of the game multiple times and have enjoyed it every time. The game is very fitting conclusion to the series. If you enjoy great stories and can stand dated graphics, you should definitely buy this.
This game sucks in every possible way. Play forgotten realm's games instead.
Love old old school RPGs. This one is fantastic.
