People seem to be disliking this game on the internets, but I just can't see it. The game is a very good classic Assassin's Creed game. Genuinely good story with American Revolution as a backdrop. Great, fleshed out characters, very good, at times pretty cerebral, dialogue. Very impactful cut scenes, with top notch voice acting. Mechanics has been upgraded and expanded since Ezio trilogy and you now have much bigger arsenal of methods in your disposal to achieve your goals. There is hunting and there is trading and sailing. Being part assassin, part explorer, part trapper/hunter, part entrepreneur and part naval commander never gets old. Overall very impressive game and a worthy Assassin's Creed game. Also a trove of American Revolution facts, if you fancy that. There is also Assassin's Creed Liberation in the bundle with the remaster but I didn't like it much. It's a Vita game so everything is simplified, from story to mechanics. Nothing really to say, there are templars and there are assassins and there are assassinations. Story doesn't hold water nor says any coherent. Main character is a girl, so it's a reason to play if that floats your boat, I guess.
It was nice to see AC3 again but it's a poor remaster where everyone looks like they're made out of wax and all the glitches are still there. My favorite was during the Valley Forge stealth mission in Tyranny of King Washington one of the checkpoints starts you off already detected by a firing squad, causing you to fail the mission right away. So your only recourse is to restart the mission if you get detected past that point.
Having played through the first couple of games I have to say I liked the story still in ac3 even though I heard a lot of complains about it. The biggest thing that I was really frustrating was the ungodly amount of bugs in this game compared to previous games. Things not showing up on the map even though not in fog. People randomly disappearing. People straight up floating or inside a wall. There was several times I had to restart just because an npc got stuck in wall somewhere. The lock on mechanic in this game is horrendous, especially if you are above. A lot of time you are looking at something and when you try to assassinate you just do an 180 degree turn and jump on some random target somewhere completely different. This is just to name a few things that got me mildly frustrated and it was constantly like this. Having done a remaster you would have wished they fixed just a portion of the issues with the game but no.
A remaster so lazy only ubisoft is capable of doing it. Additionally, if you bought this game using the bundle from AC Odyssey, you gotta download and install Odyssey first before you can verify the ownership of this game because that's just common sense from Ubisoft.
Age has not been kind to Assassin's Creed 3, though the backlash the remaster is getting is out of hand. There's the usual fluff regarding the main game: you will get intensely frustrated at the amount of tailing missions, lack of places to parkour on and a surprisingly shallow main character. The very hard optional objectives will keep taunting you for missing them, even when they're insanely difficult and practically impossible to get on the first go. For some obnoxious reason, they went with a world map that has no location names whatsoever and the slowest horse you can get. Enemy AI is really unforgiving and many missions will insta-fail you. It's not changed. However I'll have to give it a thumbs up for the excellent worldbuilding and characters, including a great conclusion to Desmond's journey. Having replayed all the Ezio games back to back just before this and having preordered the Uplay (exclusive, back in the day) version of this on release day, it still is a disappointing sequel but a great Assassin's Creed story. Especially love the very random modern day segments, the skyscraper, MMA match and a visit to Abstergo. Don't sleep on the Homestead missions! Like all side content in this game, they are for some reason very sidelined and off the beaten path - but they contain so much more character and lore content for you. This game has the weirdest way of hiding actual content from you as much as possible. Having AC3: Liberation remastered here is great. There's a folder in the game files which has a lot of exclusive bonus content, too. Overall I'd say it's a faithful remaster in the way that the game itself hasn't much changed (that godawful Lee chase is still there, unchanged) but the remastered lighting is very nice and it all runs at (locked) 60 FPS. I'd give it a middle thumb but since I appreciate the value here, I'll give it a thumbs up. Haytham is still one of the best written AC characters. Onwards to Black Flag Resynced!
Played the original version back when it came out in 2012. Picked up the remaster on steam to relive that same feeling again. A very good game with a solid protagonist; Connor. In my opinion, this AC has the best and coolest combat out of all AC's... even to this day. The only thing that i kinda forgot about, was how insanely long the prologue is. Literally 5 out of the 12 sequences, you play as Haytham and as Young Connor. That burned me a bit. Didnt realise that half the game is a tutorial. But from the moment you play as adult Connor with his Assassin robes on, the game becomes so much better and a lot more fun to play.
