A LOT of people like to hate on ark…and honestly they have every right to. The game has been out for years yet so many bugs were NEVER fixed even when wild card and snail games were working on evolved. From tames no clipping through the ground and getting your bob stuck between two rocks ultimately ruining your run sometimes, ark truly made people pull there hair out at times…
But no one really says the good things about ark.
I have around 300 hrs on mobile ark and 100 hrs on a different steam account, so I got to experience ark for the most part. I have completely beaten the island and scorched earth maps aswell and both of them have there own hells to worry about. I should probably say that I’m a PvE player so my perspective can be a little different than other people.
Ark has probably one of the most fantastic OST’s of all time. I’m serious. The music in the game is so amazing I’d even say it’s up there in the hall of fame with Minecraft. The Overseer boss battle music is insane. Gareth Coker and the rest of the people that worked on the music absolutely cooked. Ark also has a really unique and addicting gameplay loop that I don’t see other games have. Leveling up, getting engrams, crafting new equipments that need specific resources to craft them. Collecting and gathering resources is probably the grindy part since resources aren’t all usually in the same spot, forcing you to explore the map. Taming a lot of the creatures that have there own benefits is pretty cool aswell and to be honest, a lot of the creature designs and models look pretty sick even if it isn’t realistic. It’s cool to have a realistic dinosaur game, but it’s cooler to have the “hell yea” version too. Having a good run with no bugs or glitches on ark is genuinely so good, which is why I’m giving it a good review.
BUTTTT, and a very big BUT here. We all know why ark has gone downhill. Because of snail games. (the parent company that bought wild card, the original dev team behind ark due to bankruptcy) There greed is what destroyed ark. The pricing for some of the DLCs, the delayed updates and content that was promised but never came out probably due to some conflict between the two teams. It feels like snail games strangled wild card from their money forcing them to pretty much delete ark evolved. You can’t really play evolved now without experiencing a crash. Everything feels half baked when it comes to some of the updates over at ascended, making most players hate the franchise. Plus with ascended’s release, the community is now split. Wild card isn’t on the good side either since they suck at spending their money wisely. They had issues on the dev team that led them to a lawsuit which destroyed ark. That’s what got them in this predicament in the first place under snail games. No one asked for an ark cartoon series, people want the game to function. But hey, I’m sure snail games is what green lit it.
