Arcane Golf

Whilst I randomly grabbed this game after noting it in the reddit hidden gems thread, I wasn't prepared for actually how good it tuned out to be. Very solid and entertaining puzzle game with a loose golf idea. The humour felt right and the general controls and all levels were enjoyable and controls were tight enough to not need to replay the hardest holes too many times to pass them. Huge amount of levels for the price and an easy 4 or 5 hours worth of gaming. Great little indie game, and easily worth a couple bucks. Achievements felt fun to backtrack and challenge on some particular levels as well. No bugs and all achievements popped fine.

I've seen other reviews calling this a hidden gem. I wouldn't go that far, but this still is a quality, inexpensive game, if you know what you're getting into, and you're into those kind of video games. This one isn't much puzzle, it's mostly golf -- the kind of golf that demands precise timings, twitch reactions, trial-and-error, and, sometimes, plain dumb luck. It reminds me of one of many random DOS games I played as a kid. If I happened upon this one back then, I'd be very happy with it. Positives: none of the stages are ever very difficult, and there are a lot of them (250, at least). Many different elements with varying mechanics. Pleasant to look at. Achievements serve as fun bonus challenges for some of the stages. Negatives: a bit too RNG-heavy here and there, doing the same thing may lead to different results. Some bounce angles feel weird, power increase doesn't seem to be linear.

Overall score: 9/10 Unique golf gang with some cool mechanics, and awesome graphics. Has some very minor issues with resolutions, but other than that would highly recommend picking up

Great, simple snack with lovely graphics and audio. Levels are very fun and provide just the right amount of challenge, while also introducing new gimmicks at a nice pace, making the whole experience enjoyable all the way through.

There's not really anything massively wrong with this game. It's just not very exiting or interesting. If it was made sexy, violent, cute, or all 3, that would probably go a long way to making it a more fun & engaging experience. As it is it's very dull & bland.
