Antagonist

I love this game! I’m very fond of parodies and other ways to play with narrative cliché, and [i]Antagonist[/i] is particularly charming. As far as I gathered, different paths can be taken, and I’m interested in seeing all possible endings; however, I am also quite content with playing as a nice not-evil-whatsoever Ralph-supporting D’Vil, and allowing him to become a real Dark Lord would be… quite trying and heartbreaking. :D So I don’t know if I’m going to replay [i]Antagonist[/i] in different manner. The characters are very likable (except for these ones who are not meant to be likable), and I got almost all the references. And learned about RPG Maker cast, which was very enlightening! The way Ralph’s and D’Vil’s friendship developed was adorable and touching, and I especially liked how [i]not[/i] thick-headed Ralph was for a classic hero, raised and forged on the hate towards evil and Dark Lords (or one Dark Lord in particular). I also grew very fond of Teeth and her friendship with D’Vil. It is quite unusual and very welcome to find real female-and-male friendship without romantic overtones and will-they-or-won’t-they. Visuals, especially character sprites, are very pleasing to the eye. As for the combat system, I really don’t understand why so many reviewers disliked it. All battles were plot-related and challenging enough to be interesting (except for the first ones, which were pretty easy), but not so difficult that they would become frustrating. I found the idea of aligning attacks with your partner and unleashing deadly combo with new sorts of abilities awesome! You just have to be very attentive to what your partner is doing and whose turn to act it is. The only reason for grief that I had was that Ralph didn’t heal D’Vil, not even once; I thought is would be extremely cool, if he did that as a way to signify the moment when he started considering D’Vil his friend. However, probably, his ability can only heal himself?.. And it would be unfeasible from the gameplay point of view, I guess. All in all, for me, [i]Antagonist[/i] was an extremely enjoyable game, and I would certainly play anything else from the same creator. I recommended it to my friends and will cherish the memory of experiencing it!

A very fun, very nice game. (In my opinion) adorable main characters, very interesting character interactions, comedy, drama, everything a good Visual Novel-RPGMaker game hybrid could need is present. The copyright-friendly characters are quite hilarious also, if the general story humour isn't enough to amuse you. I believe the music made it that I got really hyped at the final boss of one ending, it really sweeps you off your feet emotionally, if you fall for characters rather quickly. The final boss of the other ending can take quite a while and a few attempts if Lady Luck isn't on your side, but it's not too tough. Although I would always love to see an even more fleshed out version of something good, I believe it's ideal as it is in pacing and thus also keeping the tone of the game. Overall I definitely recommend this game for the comedic and sweet gem it is to such a low price no less!

Забавная визуальная новелла с элементами РПГ. Игра полна различных отсылок, каламбуров и шуток. Веселая игрушка, за которой можно скоротать вечерок. Да, графическое исполнение очень так себе, но в данном случае рисовка играет далеко не самую первую роль. Хорошо, что нет русификатора, ибо тогда не получится передать все эти каламбуры.

The idea behind it is creative and original, however the constant reminder of leveling left a feeling that something was missing. It tried to be realistic in a fantastical sense and there was a pretty constant feeling of light-hearted humor as you got over most of the characters being spoof versions of other video game character. Overall a good game if you want to burn a little time and get a few laughs. 7/10

Don't trust the reviews that say this is a chill easy game. It's hard. This is like the worst kind of rpg where you can't really grind your way out of it, instead you have to carefully manage resources and use skills properly. I just wanted a chill joke game. It's still good just be careful going into this game.

Loved it. A lot of RPGs are really long and honestly a drag since it can be difficult to come back to after a long break. Antangonist is the antithesis to this, being a game you play in 1 sitting. The references and self aware humour made it easy to not get bored, despite it's visual novel style setting. The gameplay isn't half bad either, not having to be concerned with armour or weapons and just trying to decide between a few different options which to be fair would get boring after a while but this game is short enough that it never gets to that point.

[/h1] Przyjemna gierka, nie za długa jak na jej rodzaj, w bardzo przyjemnej graficznie - oraz co zasługuje na pochwałę - ręcznie robionej oprawie, zawiera sporo śmiesznych nawiązań do popkultury [spoiler] [strike]Nicolas [/strike] Cage-Man używający defensive Cage :D [/spoiler], zabawną i jak sądzę wielowątkową fabułę trzymającą się kupy z wieloma zwrotami akcji. [b] Gierkę jak najbardziej polecam, gra się przyjemnie - w moim przypadku wyszło ~7H. Dodać jeszcze muszę, że ogrywana była na telefonie poprzez Steam Link i tam sprawdziła się idealnie. [/b]
