A bare bones game. A straight up scam DLC policy (1 year pass doesn't include all year one DLC). Also be advised you can only play the DLC content on multiplayer if EVERYONE has it.
WANTED TO LOVE IT SO BADLY TOUGH BUT FOUND... - campaign that simply stops mid-narrative - settlements that feel lifeless especially on zoom-in - unrefined animations e.g. rowing ships being stiff af - even stiffer naval combat - RTS-borrowed lowkey military mechanics - sloth-slow feeling of research progression - heartless AI-Art in loading screens - bad UI e.g. misses to show propper overlappings of aoe which are kind of essential -... Tough the roman setting has so much to offer, everything in this game feels unfinished, lacks of refinement and most of all: love. And that needs proper time for development. One could tell, that they released way to early and now I was disappointed to play something that feels early-access but for a full price. Thanks Ubisoft! There will be propably some DLC coming to mend some holes here, but i fear that unrefined smell will stay with anno117. If you consider buying: Go, play Anno 1800. /bow a friend
I do recommend it. It is a good game, and you will get a good number of hours out of it and have some good varied gameplay. HOWEVER The business model is a disgrace. They have a year1 DLC pass which DOES NOT contain all the DLC. So you will buy the game, get the DLC pass, then buy additional DLC. They will expect you to keep throwing money at them for often minor things. The game itself deserves some good praise. The business model and attitude of the devs/pub does not.
Me pareció tremendamente chapucero.
idk why this has mixed reviews, pretty sure a sizable portion of that is due to having to use the ubisoft launcher. which is slightly annoying, of course, but nowhere near enough to not recommend it. it's a great game. is it AS good as anno 1800? probably not (yet), and there are some minor details that i miss, such as field workers in the farms (which however is to be added in the next few months, according to the devs). and raiders/pirates are perhaps too strong on the lowest setting. features i particularly like is having the option to add AIs (including raiders/pirates) mid-game, which is fantastic and largely nullifies the minor complaint above. The assets are beautiful, the production chains make sense, and I love the new feature of workforce as a % of inhabitants. (or maybe 1800 had that as well? i dont remember). The area effects of production buildings also incentivize you to place (some of) them throughout your settlements, instead of only in a specific industry corner. that's a neat feature. all in all, highly recommend, and i find it quite unfair that reviews are mixed as of writing. :) oh and i completely forgot! the fact that you can place buildings diagonally! first Anno game with that feature. makes a huge difference visually!
Just broke 100 hours, finished the campaign on launch and again recently. Havent fully dug into Endless yet. Ive tried anno a few times over the years, and always bounced off it hard due to not really being interested in Naval themes and naval warfare, i know i know, anno is a production chain game, not an RTS. You know what, most of the Anno fanbase argue over little idiosiyncracies and which game is better. Eh, Sorry, Anno 117 is the best. And yes its got heaps of problems, yet in MY opinion, its the only one I dont bounce off of hard. You know what it is? All the new features. Ground combat being the main one. Thats all i needed to make Anno work for me. Pax Romana setting, take my money. For Rome!! Pros- Ground combat ACTIVE PAUSE (how do you peasants at ubisoft NOT have this feature in 1800??) Roman setting Cons- AI generated content in a game of this budget, with these resources? Your having a laugh mate. AAA my ass. There is no effing excuse. Ubi Connect DLC spam is comin' MID Some of the cultural choices are completely boneheaded, sorry not sorry. Keep ya politics out me historical fiction. Regardless of that, the dialogue is still written by ai or sanitized french-canadians anyway so there is zero point in paying it any mind. Procurator Corinus is the only highlight of the cast, after doing the campaign twice, every other character was bland and forgettable. Ill update this review when the games complete. Yes, this is a DLC pipeline. Yes im aware. Dont care, good game. Maybe UBISOFT wouldnt have the vultures circling their rotting carcass if they made good games, without the DLC farm.
The gameplay rewards locked behind the Hall of Fame are a terrible design decision. Putting cosmetics, portraits, and decorations in the Hall of Fame would be perfectly reasonable. However, the game also locks specialists, starting resources, and automatically unlocked technologies behind cross-save progression. This means players must first complete a large number of achievements and then start another game in order to use these rewards during the early game, when they are actually most valuable. In a game where a single save can last dozens or even hundreds of hours, this does not create meaningful replay value. It simply uses meta-progression to artificially extend playtime. Even worse, the system effectively makes the game harder for new players and easier for experienced players. New players are the ones who would benefit most from additional specialists, resources, and technologies, yet they receive nothing. Veterans who already understand the game and can complete the achievements are rewarded with an easier start in their next playthrough. This is the exact opposite of sensible difficulty design. Anno already has more than enough reasons to replay it, including different maps, factions, difficulty settings, AI opponents, and development strategies. It does not need to pressure players into starting multiple campaigns through permanent gameplay advantages. These rewards should be available from the first playthrough as optional game settings, with each reward individually toggleable. The Hall of Fame should be limited to cosmetics and decorative content. This system does not add replay value. It takes parts of the game experience away and asks players to restart in order to earn them back. Never seen such a stupid design.
Criminal developers. Its the same game as anno 1800 just repainted and start all over again to sell you 100x dlc. Ontop of multiplayer DESYNC issues bricking coop games. What a gigantic waste of money this was.
Schade
Pre-ordered the game. Was not blown away by the game. The game seems unfinished, and not polished in some regards. Doesnt feel like a leap forward in storytelling from the last ANNO 1700 game, 10 years ago. In fact it feels and plays like the same game with different visual tweaks. It could almost be a creator mod overhaul. However I did enjoy my initial experience. As a PC gamer I wanted to buy a physical copy. But Ubisoft made no physical disc versions available for PC. So I was forced to buy a digital copy, on steam which was fine. Or was it? I redeemed my code, installed the game. I was logged onto my Ubisoft App (annoyingly). And launched then played the game just fine. Months later I realized that the game that I bought on steam was not in my Ubisoft Library. In-fact it has launched my Brothers Ubisoft App (Remotely) And was bound on a different Ubisoft Account? How? Don't know! I don't have access to my brothers Ubisoft Account or know his passwords? My brother buys Anno 117 on his Ubisoft account and now owns, thats right! 2x copies of Anno 117 on his Ubisoft Account. Thats right Ubisoft will let you buy it again, even though you already own it. Crazy. Now for me and my brother to play together, in a coop game. I had to buy another digital licence of Anno 117 in order to add it to my Ubisoft Library. Absolutely disgusting. The copy of Anno 117 in my steam library is now redundant, cant play it. Will never buy another product or game from Ubisoft, on PC. Unless it is a physical copy. where i can play where, and on whatever machine, place I want. Ubisoft I hope your company goes down the toilet in the near future. Dont buy this game. Wait until its 50% on sale, and be warned. Any Ubisoft games you buy on steam, required a Ubisoft APP to play. And the APP is terrible. And can link your game to other accounts without warning or permission. Furthermore, since its a digital copy. Its actualy a loan copy. YOU DONT OWN ANYTHING ON UBISOFT. IN FACT YOU WONT OWN FUTURE SONY, XBOX or ROCKSTAR games anymore. STOP BUYING Digital copies from AAA companies.
