The sandboxed virtual machine has no clock, no randomness, and no host access. The same solution costs the same number of instructions on every machine, so a recorded best is worth comparing.

The game is a simple text editor with a real time disassembly next to it to see the actual instructions. It has also tasks embedded in the UI to facilitate learning. The tasks come with a validation tool to see if it was solved correctly. However, there are websites that do the disassembly part for free, and any text editor which combined with gcc -S <file name> would yield the same result for free and fully open source, just not as automated. (Do not upload critical data to this) For the tasks parts any Advent of Code has many of the same ideas and levels of complexity tasks and Validators and there are also many universities offering free course material with tasks similar to the ones in the game. The only benefit is that this is a "all in one" package, but i couldn't find any easy way to import tasks or create ones yourself, despite test driven development, and testing in general, being a large part of programming. This means that once you are done with all tests, this IDE is useless. I can see the appeal of just using a text editor that does not help you to learn, but notepad++ / Kate can do the same with a terminal that runs GCC, or using Advent of Code for a free, and longer lasting learning experience. And once a language is understood most programmers resort to using common IDEs anyway that can do what this tool does and much more. I feel like this is a ripoff which might even hinder further and more free learning. A side note, their linux package does promise to deliver a license and copyright notice (in HIRD_PARTY_LICENSES.txt) for libjpeg-turbo but does not actually provide it. Also not really moral, but might be an honest mistake. Not sure about the other OS depot versions.

In the current year of our Lord everyone says don't learn to program because LLMs are going to replace software engineers but I am skeptical and I like programming anyways so I'm just going to continue to do it, regardless. In the meanwhile, I'm using a few games to help me learn and it looks like this one will be added to the list. My level of experience as a self taught amateur is about one year of self study using boot dev (great), the farmer is replaced (for hands on python), and Turing complete (for hardware / assembly). TIS-100 also good but I have limited exposure to it as of now. The reason I'd recommend this game is that I learn best by doing and not by passive interaction like watching videos. While this game has easy, medium, and hard problems to solve I cannot say playing it would be an "easy" experience for a total novice. But if you have some limited programming knowledge and a lot of patience you may find this a helpful way to learn C and programming in general. If you don't have determination, perseverance, and a bit of little hate in your heart, this game / field is probably not a good fit for you. To finish the first level you really need to demonstrate mastery over basic C syntax, bit shifting, and bit masking, and while I've seen these before, having to put them into practice really made it stick. There are some minor bugs like the old school operating environment wouldn't zoom in well on my computer so I switched over to the new one (it's an IDE mockup) but overall, this game is exactly what I have been looking for and I'm happy it is available. What a time to be alive!
This game is FANTASTIC! For anyone looking for a very reasonably priced alternative to leetcode which is in my view superior, thanks to clearly written and worded problems which are easy to understand, a fantastic development environment and UI and C compilation experience which makes everything feel smooth and super fun, and it's C guys! I just implemented a Python dict style datastructure in C to solve a little problem in this game and it was REALLY FUN. I am so glad to have a reason to program in C again, which really gets you close to the machine I think and forces you to think algorithmically because it comes with so little built in. The Problems seem to be getting progressively harder, I'm not sure if there is some grander design to their order though yet as I am only just getting started. The UI/UX is fantastic and comes with two modes, a modern IDE style mode called Pro, which I've been using so far, and cool retro modes if you want to spice things up with some fun UI styling. All functional, useable, and great! Only thing I would like is a computational complexity analysis of your algorithm, because it seems there are time complexity constraints on some problems, so some display or analysis of your algorithms computational complexity (however analogously, such as milisecond runtime) would be handy I think. However, if you want to practice DSA and you want a really reasonably priced and fantastic product to do it with? I can thoroughly recommend this game :)
