Aggelos, developed by Storybird Games and published by PQube alongside Look At My Game, is a lovingly crafted tribute to the golden age of 16-bit action-adventure games. Rather than attempting to radically modernize the formula, Aggelos embraces its retro inspirations with confidence, delivering a focused and tightly designed experience that captures the spirit of classic side-scrolling adventures while incorporating subtle quality-of-life improvements expected by contemporary players. The result is a game that feels both nostalgic and refreshingly accessible, offering a compact yet satisfying journey through a colorful fantasy world. Set in the Kingdom of Lumen, the story follows a young hero who embarks on a quest to repel demonic forces threatening the realm. The narrative is straightforward and intentionally reminiscent of classic console adventures, serving primarily as a framework for exploration and combat rather than as a deeply layered drama. While the plot does not aim for complexity, it effectively establishes a clear sense of purpose and momentum. The world itself is more expressive than the dialogue, with forests, dungeons, mountain peaks, and hidden caverns creating a cohesive map that gradually unfolds as new abilities are unlocked. This design reinforces a strong sense of progression, as areas that once seemed inaccessible become reachable through newly acquired powers. Gameplay in Aggelos blends action-platforming with light RPG mechanics. Combat is direct and responsive, centered on close-range swordplay supplemented by magical abilities learned throughout the adventure. As players defeat enemies and complete objectives, they gain experience and currency that can be used to upgrade health, magic capacity, and offensive spells. These upgrades meaningfully enhance survivability and combat versatility, encouraging exploration and optional side quests. Boss encounters serve as highlights, demanding pattern recognition and careful resource management rather than brute force alone. While some difficulty spikes appear later in the game, they rarely feel unfair; instead, they push players to refine their strategy and make better use of unlocked skills. Exploration is one of Aggelos’ strongest components. The interconnected world gradually opens up in a structure reminiscent of classic action-RPGs, rewarding curiosity with hidden treasures, optional upgrades, and secret paths. Although it shares structural DNA with Metroidvania titles, its pacing remains more streamlined and less labyrinthine, preventing players from feeling overwhelmed. Backtracking is present but generally purposeful, tied to newly acquired abilities that make traversal faster and more efficient. However, the in-game map can occasionally be less intuitive than ideal, sometimes requiring careful memorization of landmarks rather than clear visual indicators. Visually, Aggelos succeeds in channeling the charm of 16-bit classics through detailed pixel art and fluid sprite animation. Character designs are expressive despite the limited resolution, and enemy types range from whimsical to menacing, maintaining variety throughout the campaign. The color palette is vibrant without being oversaturated, and environmental details give each region a distinct identity. Complementing the visuals is a retro-inspired soundtrack that captures the melodic energy of classic console soundtracks while maintaining modern audio clarity. The music reinforces the adventurous tone, particularly during boss battles and dungeon explorations. The game’s relatively concise length—often completed within eight to ten hours—works to its advantage. Rather than stretching content thin, Aggelos maintains a steady pace and avoids unnecessary filler. This tight structure keeps the experience engaging from beginning to end, making it well-suited for players who appreciate focused adventures that respect their time. Replayability comes through higher difficulty runs, hidden secrets, and completionist objectives rather than sprawling endgame content. Ultimately, Aggelos stands as a strong example of retro-inspired design executed with care and intention. It does not seek to redefine the genre but instead refines familiar mechanics into a cohesive and polished package. Its combination of responsive combat, rewarding exploration, charming presentation, and balanced progression makes it appealing to both longtime fans of classic action-adventure titles and newer players curious about the design philosophies of earlier gaming eras. While it may not introduce groundbreaking innovations, its sincerity and craftsmanship ensure that it remains a memorable and enjoyable journey through a beautifully realized pixelated kingdom. Reviews, worldwide (the counter carries no country): 0.71/day in the week to Jul 30 → 0.14/day in the week after.
For scale, across Steam · Top Sellers · Brazil over the last 30 days: the 26 chart moves that followed a price cut of more than 20% went a median of 7 places towards #1, and the 2,400 moves with no price cut behind them went 2 away. One store, one chart, one country — it is the only place we have enough observations to say even that.
Prices outside the United States have been collected since 6 August 2026 and chart positions since 19 July 2026, so a cut older than that has no market to compare and a market that joined later has no history yet. Nothing here is converted between currencies.

É um metroidvania bem legalzinho. 8/10
Great Game
Gran homenaje a los Wonder Boy!
A must have for all Wonder Boy buffs.
Very fun metroidvania with really well done characters and enemy sprites. Story isn´t anything special but sometimes this kind of "easy to pick" Metroidvania at this low price is just the thing you might want. Took me 7 hours with hard difficulty to get to the ending.
