Aggelos is an absolutely excellent evolution of the Wonder Boy formula. For some reason, modern gamers seem to ignore the Wonder Boy games, in particular, Wonder Boy 3 The Dragon's Trap, which is so much more fluid and interesting than Super Metroid to me. But anyway, Aggelos takes that excellent formula and ramps it all up to another level. It is really a fantastic Metroidvania in its own right with a superb blend of action and puzzles, great enemy patterns, including the bosses, great level structuring, and it's mostly well balanced too. My biggest complaint with it is that it doesn't allow you to use a standard D-pad, you have to use an analog pad, and that feels weird. I've spent 40 odd years playing these types of games with D-pads, so having to switch to an analog pad now just gets in the way of me completely immersing myself in the game. But it's a minor complaint with what has to be for me one of my favourite games of the 2020s so far. In fact, I would say it's only third to Earthion and Skald Against the Black Priory. Definitely worth buying.
Wonder Boy in Monster World,

For scale, across Steam · Top Sellers · Brazil over the last 30 days: the 25 chart moves that followed a price cut of more than 20% went a median of 10 places towards #1, and the 2,413 moves with no price cut behind them went 2 away. One store, one chart, one country — it is the only place we have enough observations to say even that.
Prices outside the United States have been collected since 6 August 2026 and chart positions since 19 July 2026, so a cut older than that has no market to compare and a market that joined later has no history yet. Nothing here is converted between currencies.

I'm absolutely baffled that a game like this does not have full controller support. Trying to play this with joystick instead of dpad is cruel. Also feels like they didn't test their Hard mode. You shouldn't have let people choose this on their first playthrough without the ability to turn it back to normal in the settings.
Horrible controls and hitboxes. Laggy menu. Don't bother.
This game is EXHAUSTING! Don't get me wrong is somehow good, but it tries to be so accurate to Monster World that the developer forgot to add modern quality of life imrpvements into it that I'll mention in: The Good: -Simople but effectie story -Nice omage to 8-bit graphics The Bad: -The ammount of grinding to be strong enough to not do 100 slashes to kill a regular enemy is absurd. -The chiptune is so simple, short and repetitive that becomes annoying The Ugly: -It has a slide when you stop walking or press attack making it super annoying -The pushback when hit doesn't stop even if you hit a wall -You can't cut the attack animation for a kick evade
A simple adventure with some depth. And now it has a sequel!
I forgot to open the door as I was leaving school, so I'm dragging the building with me.
