9 Kings instantly hooked me on with its art style and concept. I was even more impressed when the gameplay reached my expectations. The diversity between the kings truly makes each one of them feel different to play and the meta progression aspect with the perk system was great to mess around with. There are so many different difficulty options that test your skills. The game is honestly a bit too easy until the king difficulty and everything beyond that can provide a serious challenge. That being said some of the kings deffinetly felt more easier to get a broken build on a higher difficulty (nature, stone, blood, greed). Despite there being a variety of ways to play the game, on higher difficulties or in multiplayer, there are very few strategies that can guarantee you a good result. I hope this is improved in the 1.0 release. There can definitely be more ways to add nuance in the gameplay loop on top of the decrees and perks. however for the price, this game provides more than your money's worth. Really excited to see what direction it goes in eventually but i totally see the potential in this game to reach the heights of others in the genre.
They've really nailed the pacing, here. I'm not the biggest fan of city-builder style games, but I do like auto-battlers. This game feels like more of the former than the latter, as combat is almost (and by one option can be made completely) entirely automatic. However, the strategy of building your city, which seems to max as a 5x5 tile grid, so quite small, is really very well done. The different Kings all play quite differently, and feel unique. I was surprised to find myself enjoying all of them for their own niches; none of them really stuck out of feeling underwhelming or unfun to play. It took me a bit over four hours to beat the baseline difficulties, though it's clear these continue to go exponentially for those so inclined. Overall, a very tight and tidy experience and I can't put my finger on anything particular that I felt could have been better. It nailed the genre it was aiming for. Well worth your money.
It's super fun, way funner than I expected! You should get it.
